Detailed Description

A ‘Special Patron Membership’ of the Journal of Crime & Justice Dissertations (JCJD) covers one publication cycle; this includes the following:

(1) Member universities may submit up to 20 student dissertations to the JCJD during the upcoming intake cycle, which resets on 1 June each year. (The JCJD processes dissertations on a first-come, first-served basis).

(2) Published works benefit from Diamond Open Access (the membership fee funds the platform and no charge falls on the student authors or the readers).

(3) The JCJD considers all published student work for the annual JCJD Prize (decided by Executive Committee vote).

If your university has staff who serve on the Executive Committee, they are:

(1) Eligible for an honorarium in recognition of their contributions to the JCJD inspection process.

(2) Considered for recognition awards.

REQUIREMENTS:

Special Patron member universities are not required to forward staff to serve on the Executive Committee. Still, if you are interested in having staff contribute to the Executive Committee, please email info@journalcjd.org.

MEMBERSHIP TERM:

Membership lasts for one publication cycle. Memberships purchased on or before 31 May apply to that year's intake period (1 June to 1 July). Memberships purchased after 31 May apply to the following year’s intake. If a university purchases membership but does not forward student work to the JCJD during the upcoming intake period, the membership will nonetheless expire. The membership cannot be ‘rolled over’ to the next year because of a lack of submissions.

With a Special Patron Membership, a university is capped at submitting 20 of its students’ work per publication cycle. A university may purchase only one membership for each publication cycle. If a university purchases multiple memberships, they will run consecutively.

HOW STUDENTS SUBMIT WORK:

When a university becomes a member, this allows its students to submit work to the JCJD. To submit their work for publication, students should go to https://www.journalcjd.org/submissions during June/July and complete the form there. Staff members from the university should not submit work on a student’s behalf; in this way, it is a student-led submission process. Submissions are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Consequently, once the JCJD receives 20 submissions, no more submissions will be accepted from that university for that publication cycle.

All dissertations undergo the same inspection process before publication is considered; this is detailed on the JCJD website: https://www.journalcjd.org/adviceforauthors

PUBLICITY:

The JCJD names Special Patron universities on its website and in its annual operations report. If you would rather the JCJD withheld your university's name, answer "yes" to Q4 at checkout. The JCJD will then withhold your university's name from both (the exclusion does not cover committee membership listings). You may change this preference at any time by emailing info@journalcjd.org. Any change will apply to future listings and reports; the JCJD cannot amend a report it has already published.

REFUNDS & CANCELLATIONS:

A university may cancel its membership and receive a full refund within 30 days of purchase, provided that no work has been submitted to the JCJD for processing. After a university submits its first dissertation of the cycle, the membership becomes non-refundable. The JCJD does not refund unused submission places and does not carry them forward to the following cycle. To request a refund, email info@journalcjd.org. London Met processes refunds to the original payment method.
